Village Psychic Magazine
Guidelines, Layout
Village Psychic is an online editorial, based in New York City, covering all things skateboard culture. Founded by Mike Burrill and Spencer Gillespie, the aim of the project has always been to cover how skateboarding’s influencing society around its participants. When it was time to roll out a series of magazines, focusing on a photographer per issue, I was commissioned to design them.
Collaborators
Cole Giordano
Jahmal Williams (Issue 3)
While issues 1 and 2 were printed via risograph by Secret Project Robot in Brooklyn, issue 3 was printed in full-color. This was partly because, as the issue was released as a collaboration with the independent skate brand HOPPS, it was also curated by skateboarder, artist, and HOPPS owner Jahmal Williams.
In addition to full-color photographs, the pages were given pops of color in the background. Orange, for example, was used in honor of skate wax that was manufactured by Village Psychic and HOPPS as part of the issue release concept.
The issue featured photographs by Cole Giordano, who I’d worked with on 43 Magazine.
