The Wall Street Journal (WSJ.) Magazine
Guidelines, Layout
WSJ. Magazine is an internationally published monthly luxury lifestyle magazine, distributed alongside The Wall Street Journal. The magazine profiles forward-thinking visionaries, culture-shaping destinations, and innovations in commerce. I was responsible for designing front-and-back-of-book layouts, creating templates for feature stories, and managing the assets between the editorial teams.

The design and production team was small, and my opportunities to contribute to the magazine’s evolution were numerous.
During the design phase for a winter fashion issue, we purchased a font development program so that I could craft a display font from two letters designed by the Creative Director. The font was featured in future issues until the magazine was redesigned.
The publication was redesigned when a large portion of the team transferred to another publication, including the Creative Director.
When a new staff was assembled, the assignment was to make the typography and layout more visually cohesive with The Wall Street Journal, calling for an overhaul in layout and template design.
I oversaw the redesign of cornerstone pages, such as the table of contents.
One of my primary layouts each issue was Tracked, an article that incorporated small text and imagery to document a typical day for a featured influential figure.
When the magazine was redesigned, I was able to reimagine the layout to make it look similar to the rest of the magazine. The new layout features less small images and larger text, affording more focus to the featured content.
